Participants have a choice
of 2 technical tours:
SETIU WETLAND TOUR
(2.30pm to 6.30pm)
This is a 4 hour cruise in
the Setiu Wetland area. Participants will have the
opportunity to explore and experience Malaysian wetland
flora and fauna for example monitor lizards, monkeys,
egrets, eagles etc. The tour includes a short stop at
the river terrapin nesting area where representatives of
ecotourism organisations will release mature river
terrapins into the wild. Refreshments is served against
a mangrove setting before returning to the hotel.
14:30pm –
Depart from Suria Beach Resort Merang to Setiu Wetland
15:00pm –
Arrival Penarik riverside, Briefing about river terrapin
(batagur baska) research and conservation project along
Sungai Setiu. Release river terrapin into the river.
15:30pm –
Depart to Pengkalan Gelap.
16:00pm –
Arrival Pengkalan Gelap UNDP-Petra community mangrove
regeneration project, briefing, mangrove replanting by
some participants and refreshment.
17:00pm –
Depart to Gong Batu, Cruise along Setiu wetland mangrove
swamp river, you will be greeted by wild animals like
monitor lizard, monkeys, crabs, colourful birds and
eagles. Visit oyster and fish farm.
18:30 pm –
Transfer back to Suria Beach Resort (ETA 19:00pm)
MARANG RIVER SAFARI
(2.30pm to 7.30pm)
This 5 1/2 hour tour
departs for Marang Jetty which includes a 45 minute slow
cruise along the ecologically rich Marang River.
Participants will come across monitor lizards, monkeys,
egrets and other wildlife. This is followed by a stop at
a Kampong (traditional village) to experience the rural
activities of the people there.
14:30pm –
Depart from Suria Beach Resort Merang to Marang
15:30pm –
Arrival Marang Jetty, Cruise up to Marang River. Along
the mangrove swamp river, you will be greeted by wild
animals like monitor lizard, monkeys, crabs, colourful
birds, eagles and sometime an otters.
16:30pm –
Arrive Kg Jenang, Witness the traditional live style of
Terengganu villagers which included stop at one of the
riverside village and visit several cottage industries
like Attap leave roof weaving, coconut sugar making and
see monkeys plucking coconuts.
17:30pm –
Refreshment
18:00 pm –
Transfer back to Suria Beach Resort (ETA 19:00pm) |
